Give Thanks this Holiday Season: It's Scientifically Proven to Boost Mental Health

Updated: Mar 13

Someone's hand helping another person. Mental health giving and supporting.

Each year the holiday season brings feelings of love and togetherness, joy and laughter- but for many, it can also be a time of stress and anxiety. However, one way you can combat these negative feelings, is by practicing the art of gratitude. In fact, many studies show that giving thanks can help lower stress, boost sleep, and even protect from feelings of depression. This week, we encourage you to take some time to think about what you're grateful for. Who knows? It may just have benefits beyond a Thanksgiving dinner table talking point.

Here's what the Case Integrative Health team is thankful for this season, and all year round.

Integrative and functional MD, Dr. Casey Kelley

I’m grateful for the team at CIH – to be able to enjoy going to work and know that you have a team there that supports each other is rare and such a gift. We strive to create a place that is safe and supportive for patients but also a place where our team can thrive!! I’m grateful for an office filled with windows so I can enjoy the sunshine – even if the weather is getting colder – to get to see outside all day is a joy.

Finally, I’m grateful for my health. Health will always be a work in progress, but I can look back on my journey with pride in my body and my soul. I am a warrior!

Integrative and functional MD, cardiology, Dr. Trent Orfanos

In my previous practice I was pretty much alone in the functional and integrative medicine world at my institution. There were no other like-minded practitioners working with me. I looked in my area, and nothing came up. Then my wife suggested I talk to Dr. Kelley whom we had known for several years. Here I have found that like-minded team at Case Integrative Health. I am very grateful to my wife and to Dr. Kelley for helping me find my tribe.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to wake up every day and be inspired. By the breathtaking nature that surrounds me, by the fresh, nutrient dense food that fuels my body, by my precious and crazy family, by my brilliant coworkers, by my courageous clients who let me walk a few steps by their side, and the magic in the everyday.

Matt Kelley, President and CEO

I’m grateful that I get to work with a team of people who are deeply invested in helping people truly heal; from the Patient Services team through all the providers, it’s exciting to see the impact on patient’s lives.

I’m also grateful that this team has embraced change. We’ve all experienced a lot of change in the past couple years and our group has tackled it head on – working through difficult changes, learning and adapting to new modalities, and taking care of each other in the process!
